Final Project Treatment

Project treatment:

With this animation project, I will create a short demonstration of green screening, after effects compositing, and Photoshop action assignment to image sequences. My scene will consist of a montage sequence of individual and swarms of space ships commencing in aerial battles. The scene is a section taken from an old script I had scrapped, where a robot army is overpowering and destroying rebel ships in various scenarios. Sound over the montage will be a monologue about the abuse of advanced weaponry. The action will focus on the over powering destruction of one fleet over another because of their more advanced weaponry. Shot length will vary, creating a sort of rhythm in synch with the dialogue. I will green screen multiple model space ships in motion, then duplicate them and composite their actions in After effects to create the illusion of a large scale space battle. Lasers will also be superimposed amidst the action. Once I have edited the footage of space battle and implemented lasers, backgrounds, and special effects, I will export the entire film as an image sequence. I will create an action in Photoshop to apply a comic-book style effect on all of the images. I will then recompile the image sequence in After effects. I will add sound in Final Cut. For the green screening, I have built a green screen studio in my house. I will suspend the toy space ships with fishing line and “fly” them in front of the camera. There are multiple types of keying methods in After Effects, so I will try them all out to see which yields the best results. After keying out the green, I have several Photoshop plugins, including space and planet tools to create photorealistic space-scapes and planets for the backgrounds. The only difficulty of this project will probably be the compositing in After Effects, but I feel I have a good grasp now that I’ve done a few animation projects. Laser effects are simple; I will just need to draw lines in After effects and create a motion path. For explosions, there is a great library for free on line. I have a condenser mic to do dialogue. When all is edited and if I have time in the end, I will create a score for the action represented on screen.

The following is the monologue:
Lazerus: History has a strange way of repeating itself. In the ascent to power, it always takes a heartless bastard to reach the top. A bastard with the most advanced technology. Take his big guns away, and you have a sniveling coward with a black soul. When the British fought the Zulu hand to hand, they were bravely out fought by the ferocity of the Zulu protecting their homeland. Then, the British brought in their heavy artillery because they knew they couldn’t defeat a people who did not want to submit. The Zulu were slaughtered like livestock under the British’s gatling guns and cannons. The British got what they wanted after that. And now… Amadeus has a robot army at his command. To think that he had kept it a secret for so long… the resistance will fall.
